As organizations manage sensitive data across endpoints, cloud platforms, and a growing number of SaaS applications, having clear visibility into where data lives and how it moves has become increasingly important. For companies operating in highly sensitive and IP driven environments, the ability to understand data access and respond quickly to risk is essential.
To explore how data visibility, data security posture management (DSPM), and modern data loss protection (DLP) come together in practice, Cameron Galbraith, Vice President of Product Marketing at Cyberhaven, sat down with the manager of IT system engineering at a surgical robotics company. In the conversation, the IT leader shares how combining endpoint and cloud visibility has changed the way the team approaches data protection and why speed and context matter when managing risk.

To start, can you tell us about your role and how you measure success?
IT Leader
For me it's about adaptability and efficiency. How quickly you can get things done and adapt to new requests while doing it appropriately.
Galbraith
How important is data security for your company?
IT Leader
Data security is integral to basically all company security. You're protecting IP and protecting the company's value. If anyone can take it, then the data doesn't have value anymore.
Galbraith
Where does DSPM fit into that bigger picture?
IT Leader
DSPM allows you to have a map of where data is and who has access to it. If you understand that, you can create better segmentation and better protections.
Galbraith
What stood out to you about Cyberhaven compared to other tools?
IT Leader
A lot of existing DSPM tools are very conventional. With Cyberhaven, I can integrate it with Exchange, Slack, SharePoint, and get actionable information. Instead of spending time configuring things, I know where to take action.
Galbraith
Why is combining DSPM and DLP important?
IT Leader
For DLP and DSPM to be effective, they have to work together. If you only know what's happening on the endpoint or only in the cloud, you're always going to have a gap.
Galbraith
What was your first real aha moment with Cyberhaven DSPM?
IT Leader
Seeing the network map. I could trace a file from the endpoint to the cloud using the same file hash. That's when I realized this is a pretty powerful tool and it's going to become critical.
Galbraith
How important is scan frequency with DSPM?
IT Leader
It's critical. If permissions change and something is exposed for even twenty four hours, a lot of damage can happen. You need near real time visibility to react quickly.
Galbraith
If a peer asked you how to describe Cyberhaven, what would you say?
IT Leader
I would describe Cyberhaven in three words. Modern quick DLP.
